September 5, 2017 – Tuesday
Today we depart Newark Liberty Airport on our transatlantic flight arriving in Portugal the next day. Meals are served on board.

September 6, 2017 – Wednesday
Today we arrive in Lisbon and meet our Pilgrimage Tours’ tour director who will remain with us until the end of our tour. We transfer to the city of Lisbon, where we will celebrate Mass at the birthplace of St. Anthony of Padua, followed by a panoramic tour of the city. En route to Fatima, we stop for a visit at the Church of St. Stephen, or “Church of the Holy Miracle” in Santarem, site of a 13th century Eucharistic miracle. Finally we arrive in Fatima where in 1917 Mary appeared to local children and the “miracle of the sun” occurred. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Fatima Apparitions. Following dinner we participate in the evening’s Candlelight Procession. Overnight in Fatima.

September 7, 2017 – Thursday
This morning we participate in the Stations of the Cross along the path that the shepherd children used to tend to their flock en route to the Cova de Iria where Our Lady appeared to the children. Here we pause to recite the Holy Rosary. Next we visit nearby Aljustrel to visit the House of Lucia and House of Francisco and Jacinta. In the afternoon we will visit the Shrine and Basilica of Our Lady where we celebrate Mass, followed by free time to explore the sanctuary’s grounds. Following dinner this evening, we have another opportunity to join the Candlelight Procession. Overnight in Fatima.

September 8, 2017 – Friday
This morning we depart Fatima for the home of St. James, Santiago Santiago de Compostela, where upon our arrival, we join in the Pilgrim’s Mass followed by a walking tour of the historical center of Santiago, including a visit to the Cathedral of St. James the Apostle, housing the remains of the Saint. The Cathedral’s facades display examples of both Romanesque and Baroque architecture. We celebrate Mass in the Cathedral of St. James. Dinner and overnight in Santiago de Compostela.

September 9, 2017 – Saturday
Following Mass this morning in the Cathedral of St. James, we travel to Avila, the best-preserved walled city in the world and home of St. Teresa of Avila until her death in 1582. It is here, with her spiritual director St. John of the Cross, that St. Teresa reformed the Carmelite Order. We visit and celebrate Mass in the Carmelite Monastery. Following Mass, w e will visit the cell where St. Teresa lived and see relics of Teresa and St. John of the Cross. The remainder of our day is free. Dinner and overnight in Avila.

September 10, 2017 – Sunday
Following Mass this morning in Avila, we depart for Madrid, where upon our arrival, we enjoy an orientation tour of Spain’s capital that will include a visit to the city’s Almudena Cathedral. From here we arrive at the Plaza Mayor, the main square in Madrid, where we enjoy some free time for shopping. We bid Madrid farewell and continue on to the town of Zaragoza for dinner and overnight.

September 11, 2017 – Monday
This morning we visit the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, the place where Mary appeared to the Apostle James before her Assumption into heaven. We visit and celebrate Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. We continue on to Lourdes where in 1858, Mary appeared to a young Bernadette Soubirous. Upon our arrival in Lourdes, we enjoy a walking tour of Lourdes where we visit the places important in the life of Bernadette, including the Grotto and Spring where Mary appeared to Bernadette numerous times and the nearby Healing Baths where many pilgrims have submerged themselves for its healing properties. Following Mass at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (Upper Basilica), we will visit the Rosary Basilica (Lower Basilica) as well as the Basilica of Pius X, followed by a visit to Bernadette’s home and the Museum of Lourdes. Following dinner we participate in the evening’s Candlelight Procession. Overnight in Lourdes.

September 12, 2017 – Tuesday
This morning we celebrate Mass in the Grotto. Next we will explore the countryside known by St. Bernadette with a trip into the snowcapped Pyrenees Mountains. First we visit Bartres, where Bernadette lived and then we will make a stop to visit the old Benedictine Abbey in the village of St. Savin. We return to Lourdes and gather together for walking the Stations of the Cross. The remainder of the day is free at the Lourdes Sanctuary where we can explore its holy grounds. This evening offers another opportunity to participate in the Candlelight Procession. Overnight in Lourdes.

September 13, 2017 – Wednesday
This morning we depart Lourdes for Barcelona, where upon our arrival we enjoy a motor coach tour of this cosmopolitan city, including a visit to its Gothic Quarter. Next we will visit the impressive Basilica of the Sagrada Familia, one of the largest churches in Europe. Here we will learn the history of the basilica, including its initial ground-breaking in 1882 and its construction which became the life’s work of Antoni Gaudi until his death in 1926. Following Mass at Sagrada Familia we arrive at our hotel for dinner and overnight in Barcelona.

September 14, 2017 – Thursday
This morning we embark on a day trip to the wonderful mountaintop Sanctuary of Montserrat, where we join in the celebration of Mass and the “Liturgy of the Hours” at the Monastery with the monks of Montserrat. Here we enjoy a tour of the monastery and grounds, including a visit and celebration of Mass at the Shrine of Our Lady of Montserrat or Black Madonna, one of Spain’s most fervent devotion to the Blessed Mother. We also observe the Way of the Cross and enjoy some of the most incredible scenery in Spain. We return to Barcelona and arrive at the famous Las Ramblas Boulevard, one of the most upbeat and striking boulevards in all of Europe. Here we will enjoy free time for shopping and personal exploration of this vibrant city. Dinner and overnight in Barcelona.

September 15, 2017 – Friday
After breakfast, we transfer to the airport for our connecting flight back home. Though our pilgrimage draws to a close, its blessings will last a lifetime and its graces are certain to draw us closer each day to the Lord.
